For The Win!

To make new beginnings
and wish for fairy-tale endings

To overcome the roadblocks
with good old pals: faith and courage

To see the world once more
through purple-colored glasses

To stop wiggling like a caterpillar
and let the butterflies flutter

To follow what Ulysses says
"To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield"

It is time to arrest the fall
and usher in the spring!

A tale of two birthdays!

Two birthdays which did share the same day and year value. What differed was the month value. And the manner of celebration!

Birthday 1
Date: August 3rd, 2010
Birthday boy: ME!
Mood: Man, 28 years have passed and still no sight of that flying saucer!
Celebrations:  A lazy day at home with family, special home food, cake and a book (The Hobbit) set in virtual world. Add a 3 year old sweet kid from neighborhood who enthusiastically performs all the duties of cake cutting, candle blowing, etc on your behalf :). The remaining time was spent talking to the loving neighbors or to friends spread over nooks and corners of this world who still have the day archived in their memory cells. Everybody anticipating an invitation to the beginning of an unexpected adventure like the one Bilbo Baggins has in Hobbit ;). Ideal birthday eh? For me, definitely yes!

Birthday 2
Date: September 3rd, 2010
Birthday boy: My dad!
Mood: Man, I am turning 60 and I am gonna throw a party!
Celebrations: A pandal was erected in front of house along with a small stage for the birthday boy. The other stars of the show being a 5 kg cake and a bottle of champagne which I pretty much totally poured on the cake! Approximately 200 close relatives and family friends joined us and had a merry time laughing, singing, eating, revisiting old memories while making new ones and drinking, may be not in that particular order :).

The underlying pattern
Birthdays not only embark beginning of another free roller-coaster ride around the sun. They provide an ideal excuse for your family and friends to get in touch with you on a single day! No wonder you feel special on your birthday! :-)

One weekend that ruled them all..

A weekend, an empty house,  32-inch TV, a laptop and HDMI cable. The perfect infrastructure powered by laziness resulted in a weekend spent sitting in front of TV living in a virtual world painted in extended versions of all Lord of the rings film trilogy. The first one mesmerized me into the virtual world, the second one threatened to pull me out of it on occasions. But the third one was simply fascinating and breath-taking.

Favorite scene: Legolas taking down an elephant along with 10 warriors on it in a matter of minute!

Favorite characters:
1. Aragorn. The ranger who initially shuns his responsibilities but eventually returns to be the king!
2. Sam: The kind of friend we all wish to have by our side all the time.
3. Smeagol/Gollum:  Beautiful portrayal of the two sides within a human being.
And now I am inspired to read the book again! :)

Nostalgia....

November 4, 6:30 AM: The Homecoming at Diwali!
The private bus travel guy decides to drop me at a place other than the expected final stop! And thus begins the ride back home on a road which has been less traveled after junior college days. The serenity of the Shukravari talav (a lake) ushers in heavenly silence in my mind. The small lane which led to the C-DAC center took me back to 3 idiots era. The bridge ahead gave a top view of the junior college building and the adjacent railway track where each passing train gave us a breather to discuss life, universe and everything in the middle of a boring sermon. A nearby restaurant reminds of the era when eating out used to be a special event which was cherished for months. 20 minutes later, I had reached home refreshed with this huge collection of leaves of memories collected on the way!
